He was a former Queen’s College student who later served in the then British Guiana Civil Service in the Department of Forestry.Dr. King acquired scholarships to study forestry at the University of Bangor in Wales and also studied law at London University following which he gained his Bachelor of Law Degree in 1956 and Bachelor’s of Science. Dr. King also gained a Doctorate in Philosophy from Oxford University in 1963.The late Dr. King, was not only also later part of the staff of the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), but was also appointed Chief of Forestry Development Planning at FAO-World Bank in 1970-1971.He later formed part of the PNC Government’s Cabinet as Minister of Economic Development and Vice-Chairman of the Guyana State Corporation.Subsequently, under the People’s Progressive Party/Civic’s (PPP/C) ascension to office in 1992, Dr. King was appointed as Ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium in Brussels and Permanent Representative to the European Union (EU).
